Here is an interesting article. A man was misdiagnosed for being in coma after a car crash, despite being fully conscious. It took 23 years before a brain scan could show that the doctors had made a mistake.

I recently heard that coconut oil may delay the progression of Alzheimers' disease:
http://www.impactlab.net/2011/01/31/coconut-oil-shown-to-reverse-the-effects-of-alzheimers/ Because coconut oil has saturated fat, it is of course not so good for your heart, but it is possible that it is good for your brain. This is because coconut oil has a large concentration of a fat called medium chain triglycerides (MCT). It is not fully clear why MCT has an effect, but some studies suggest that it liberates omega-3 fatty acids in the body and transports it to the brain. In addition it increases phospholipid levels in the brain, which is related to healthy cognitive functioning (phospholipids contain choline, which is the precursor molecule for Acetylcholine). This may be an interesting study to use for the learning outcome how social and cultural factors affect cognitive processes, in this case how technology and internet affects memory. In this study, participants were asked to type in factual statements into a computer. One group were told that the statements would be saved, the other group that the statements would not be saved. The group that were told that the statements would not be saved remembered them better afterwards. The same may apply to information on the internet. If we know that the information is accessible on the internet, we may not make an effort to remember it.
