This might be related to one of the principles of the biological level of analysis: the relevance of animal research. In 2009 a chimp in a Swedish zoo showed an ability to plan for the future by stockpiling rocks to throw at visitors.

Very interesting... I've studied some characteristics that separate humans from non-human animals. Being able to cognize the past and the future is one of those things, yet several studies have shown that primates share this characteristic with us to some degree, concurring with this chimp study.

We know that most animals have semantic memory, but episodic memory is usually discussed exclusive to human beings.This is the link to the specific case study that shows evidence for episodic memory in an intelligent gorilla.

Thanks for the links, Book. The main difference between animals and humans, as I understand it, is the ability for language (at least the ability to invent new concepts) It makes sense that if primates can imagine/prospect into the future, they should also be able to relive their past - as it in many ways are the same mental processes involved, right?
